Canadian Patient Safety Institute
Canadian Patient Safety Week is Oct. 28 – Nov. 1 and this year, we’ll be launching our #ConquerSilence campaign to spread awareness about the third leading cause of death in Canada — preventable healthcare harm. It’s responsible for the deaths of 28,000 Canadians each year and we’re reaching out to influential individuals within Canada’s healthcare industry like yourself in hopes that you’ll support the cause.
Please let us know if you’d be interested in discussing the initiative in more detail!

Paramedics are employed by Australian and international mining and petroleum organisations to provide emergency medical response, injury prevention, health promotion, chronic disease management, medical referral, primary healthcare and repatriation co-ordination for miners in exploration, construction and production. These are challenging roles given the often isolated, potentially hazardous and clinically unpredictable nature of the sites where these paramedics work.

Patients more than 18 years of age who were suspected of having an OHCA by EMDs or emergency medical service technicians at the patient’s bedside were eligible for inclusion in the study. The initial diagnosis, results of primary assessment and monitoring, and the final outcome of the mission (gold standard) were all recorded. Related archived audios were extracted from the system and listened to by the researcher.
