In surprise release, Georgia GOP proposes GERRYMANDERED congressional map

John -- Yesterday, Texas Republicans released a partisan power grab disguised as a congressional map. Then, just hours later, the Georgia GOP followed suit with a stunningly unfair congressional map released with no warning.

"Contrary to what Georgia Republicans are saying, this map unfairly consolidates or separates communities of color , fails to take the census data trends into account, insufficiently represents a diversifying Atlanta metro area, and decreases the voting power of African American voters in a historic Black district. This is not acceptable." -- Eric H. Holder, Jr.

But that's not all, John. The Georgia GOP ignored voters who pleaded for fair maps, drew these districts behind closed doors, and provided no warning to their legislative colleagues or to the public that the map would be released! And according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution , this map threatens Democratic Congresswoman Lucy McBath and could help Republicans flip her seat .

Proposed maps coming out of Texas and Georgia (and last week, Ohio) make it clearer than ever that across the country, Republicans care more about their political power than about fairness and democracy.
