Build Back BETTER - We Energies March & Rally
Wednesday, September 29, 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM CT
Victory Over Violence Park, 2625 N Dr Martin Luther King Jr Dr
This month President Biden and Congressional Democrats are trying to pass the boldest set of federal investments since the New Deal that will fight the climate crisis and create good union jobs in our community. But as expected, big corporations have unleashed a gigantic lobbying campaign to stop them.
Here in Wisconsin, We Energies is part of a utility lobbying campaign to block serious action to prevent a climate catastrophe. They're a member of the Edison Electric Institute, the lobbying arm for large for-profit utilities which spent $8 million lobbying Congress last year, and have an army of 120 lobbyists at their disposal.
We have no more time to waste to address the climate crisis. And folks in our community need good paying jobs now. But the only way to beat back this kind of lobbying muscle and pass this federal investment is for activists to come together in numbers to reveal the power working against them.
That's why we need you to join us at our September 29th Day of Action. The event starts at 10am at Victory Over Violence Park (2625 N Doctor M.L.K. Jr Dr, Milwaukee, WI 53212) in the Harambee neighborhood, where African Americans face the highest energy burdens in the city and the constant threat of utility cut offs. From there, we'll march to the We Energies headquarters in Zeidler Park where we'll hear from speakers. We will have signs and banners, and the media will be invited, so we can get the message out to as many folks as possible.
Speakers include:
Robert Kraig, Executive Director Citizen Action of Wisconsin
Rafael Smith, Climate and Equity Citizen Action of Wisconsin
Supreme Moore Omokunde, Wisconsin State Representative
