Last week, when Republican Paul LePage made it official and launched his campaign to bring his brand of Trump-style politics back to Maine, I knew we needed to be ready for a fight. You see, I’ve seen a LePage governorship firsthand -- and it wasn’t pretty.

During his speech, LePage sounded just like the LePage we already know -- he promised to restrict voting rights and repeal COVID safety guidelines, among other extreme proposals.

Then -- the very same day -- Senator Susan Collins threw her full support behind his campaign.

Here’s one thing I know for sure, John: I’ll be doing everything I can to ensure LePage doesn’t flip Maine red. How about you? We’ve got a huge fundraising deadline Sept. 30 and need your help to meet our end-of-quarter goal. Pitch in $5 right now.

I’m sure you’re already getting lots of emails about this big end-of-quarter deadline -- but I want to take a minute to tell you why I think this one is worth your attention. Under Gov. Janet Mills, we’ve expanded health care coverage and fully funded public education. But Maine is not a safe blue state -- and if we don’t win this fight, Paul LePage and the GOP will roll back all of our progress.

The Maine Democratic Party will be on the frontlines of the fight, but the only way we can defeat Paul LePage and elect Democrats up and down the ballot is with help from supporters like you.
