Texas Abortion Ban Attempts an End Run Around Constitution [[link removed]]

BY CARRIE BAKER | On Sept. 1, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed an unconstitutional Texas abortion ban to go into effect. While the Supreme Court did not rule on the law’s merits, the decision is a chilling harbinger of how they may rule in an upcoming case—Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization—on whether previability abortion bans are unconstitutional.
Many are fighting back.

BY MADISON GUSLER | It’s no coincidence that both abortion and voting rights are under unprecedented attack in statehouses across the country: In 2021, over 561 abortion restrictions were introduced across 47 U.S. states. During the same time period, 400 restrictive voting rights bills have been introduced across 49 states.
On September 15, a coalition of social justice organizations led by the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, Black Women’s Roundtable and National Council of Negro Women gathered outside the Supreme Court to draw this connection and call for action to protect the constitutional right to vote, to equality and to privacy.
