You may have seen “end-of-quarter” and “FEC deadline” appear in your inbox
these past few days. We want to explain what this FEC deadline is and why
it’s so important for our campaign:

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is tasked with collecting and
reporting election data, including campaign fundraising and finances.
Federal campaigns like ours submit these reports to the FEC on a quarterly
basis.

Here’s a look at what the report looks like:

These reports are used by political pundits, the media, and potential
opponents to gauge the support behind our movement and the strength of our
grassroots campaign.

This Thursday, September 30, is the Q3 reporting deadline — when we’ll
submit a report of our finances for the past three months. With three
potential opponents already eyeing Alexandria’s seat, it’s incredibly
important we publish strong numbers to fend off well-funded challengers.

And for a campaign like ours — one that doesn’t accept contributions from
corporations and lobbyists — a strong finance report proves that
small-dollar, grassroots campaigns can compete against the corrupt
influence of big money in politics.

We’ve set a goal to raise $1.7 million this quarter, and still have 10.7%
to raise before our deadline on Thursday.

you can afford it — will you make a $3 contribution (or
whatever you can) to help get us to our goal and ensure we post the
strongest FEC fundraising report possible?

These numbers will be reported like baseball stats on news outlets across
the country, immediately after they’re published. As one of the most
heavily targeted members of Congress, all eyes will be on Alexandria’s
report and the strength of the grassroots movement beside her.

But, it’s not just the safety of her seat that pundits will use our report
to measure — the popularity of the progressive policies and ideals that
Alexandria represents are also in question.

[ [link removed] ]Your $3 contribution will ensure that our report shows
strong support for Alexandria’s work to tackle the climate crisis, invest
in healthcare and childcare, and take care of working families — and will
power our fight to pass the policies we care about. Can we count on your
$3 contribution now?

Thank you for everything you do for our movement.

— Team AOC
