Today is National Voter Registration Day, so I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the attacks happening on our democracy here in Montana.
This year, Montana was one of 18 states -- all with Republican controlled legislatures -- that passed voter suppression laws.
The GOP eliminated same-day voter registration and made Voter ID laws for voting, and registering to vote, more restrictive and discriminatory. Not only are these policies bad for our democracy, Montana Voters struck them down by referendum. It’s a vote against the will of Montanans.
Make no mistake: these Republican bills are designed to disenfranchise as many voters as possible. These bills take aim at our college students, our seniors, and our Native American communities all across Montana.
While our Republican representatives at home are attacking our right to vote, Republicans in Congress are still perpetuating massive election fraud myths to sow division among Americans. And Ryan Zinke is in this race to join their ranks.
I won’t stand for this blatant attack on our most fundamental right as Americans.
We need to send leaders to Washington who will make sure that voting is secure and accessible for every eligible voter. I’m ready to lead that fight.
I know we can win this fight for our democracy. Right now, my campaign is working on a huge deadline with the Federal Elections Commission. We need to raise $20,000 in order to out-organize and defeat Ryan Zinke and his anti-democracy pals. Can I count on you to chip in $5 today? »
