two women working in climate victory garden

Dear Friend,

Are you new to gardening? Did you miss planting season? It isn't too late (though you may not see the fruits of your labor until spring)! In cooler zones, this is the time to plant perennials, garlic, stone fruit, evergreens, and other trees. In warmer zones, fall is time to continue planting veggies. In Jackson, Mississippi, for example, you can plant beets at the end of September and arugula at the beginning of October.

You'll find resources for both climates in this newsletter. You'll also find our newest Soil Superhero's story.

You won't want to miss our upcoming gardening webinar on Building Community through Gardening on Wednesday, October 28, at 2pm EST/11am PST!

The webinar will include speakers from different organizations who will share their stories and tips for using gardening to create stronger local communities!

In her latest cartoon, artist Kristen Radke explores the history and effects of the US's obsession with manicured grass lawns.  She reminds us that "to cast aside our dreams of the perfect lawn is to embrace the world for what it is, and to honor what it was meant to be."

Together, our gardens can move the dial on the climate crisis, and there’s lots of other benefits. Climate Victory Gardening is good for your physical and mental health, it supports healthy local environments, and it reinforces food security in your home and community.

Thanks for gardening for people and the planet,
