Biden's Vetting Crisis
Every day the Biden Administration creates a new disaster. We forget about the previous disaster and move on to the next one. But the mistakes they're making continue to hurt America long after we forget about them.
The Afghanistan withdrawal will likely continue hurting us for years. The United States correctly wanted to get Afghans who helped us out of that country. But it appears that's not who poured onto planes at the Kabul airport.
How do we know this? When Afghans helped us, they got a special visa. But only three percent of the Afghans Biden brought back to America had such a visa. Most of them are unvetted individuals from a country where radical Islam is the prevailing culture.
Tens of thousands of these unvetted Afghans are being held on our military bases here in the U.S. Virtually every base is reporting incidents of criminal conduct toward women and children. Women in the U.S. military are being harassed by Afghan men who we brought here. This is outrageous!
Polling shows that 55% of Americans don't believe the Biden Administration can adequately do background checks on these Afghans. The public is smarter than the Biden Administration.
As Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee put it, "You can't just call 1-800-Taliban and find out if somebody is who they claim to be." Kudos to Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and others who are demanding answers about Biden's vetting process.
Of course, this is not an isolated issue. It's happening on our southern border every single day. Two hundred thousand illegal aliens are crossing the border every month. We have no way of vetting them. How could we? Many are deliberately destroying or losing their IDs before they reach the border.
Everywhere you look, the Biden Administration is erasing the borders of the United States. Your community and your family will suffer as a result.
Biden Lied Again
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, General Mark "Thoroughly Modern" Milley and General Kenneth McKenzie, head of U.S. Central Command, testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee today.
In contrast to President Biden's claim that the withdrawal from Afghanistan was an "extraordinary success," Milley defended Biden's retreat from Kabul as "a logistical success, but a strategic failure."
Generals McKenzie and Milley both testified that they advised President Biden to retain a small force of 2,500 to 4,000 troops in Afghanistan to prevent the Taliban from retaking the country. Biden rejected their advice and the radical Islamists are once again back in power.
But let's review the tape. On August 18th, President Biden was interviewed by former Clinton White House aide George Stephanopoulos. Just consider this exchange:
STEPHANOPOULOS: But your top military advisors warned against withdrawing on this timeline. They wanted you to keep about 2,500 troops.
BIDEN: No, they didn't. It was split. Tha-- that wasn't true. That wasn't true.
STEPHANOPOULOS: They didn't tell you that they wanted troops to stay?
BIDEN: No. Not at -- not in terms of whether we were going to get out in a timeframe all troops. They didn't argue against that.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So no one told -- your military advisors did not tell you, "No, we should just keep 2,500 troops. It's been a stable situation for the last several years. We can do that. We can continue to do that"?
BIDEN: No. No one said that to me that I can recall.
So, Biden not only ignored the advice of his top generals, he also lied to the American people.
Bidenomics Makes No Sense
In recent days, leading liberals, including Joe Biden, have been claiming that the monstrous $3.5 trillion spending bill is completely paid for and won't cost one penny. That's absurd!
It's like someone saving for years to buy a car, going to the dealer and paying for the car and then telling a friend that the car didn't cost a penny. It's totally false, but the left is assuming that most Americans don't have an adequate understanding of economics.
Here's another example. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked yesterday about the likelihood that corporations and businesses would pass along the tax hikes they get hit with to consumers.
Psaki replied, "There are some . . . who argue that, in the past, companies have passed on these costs to consumers. We feel that that's unfair and absurd."
Well, I'm not sure how much Ms. Psaki understands about basic economics.
When you raise the cost of doing business – whether through inflation, regulation or tax hikes – there's only so much a company can absorb. It is "unfair and absurd" to assume they can just eat those costs and won't pass them on to consumers.
One thing many Americans do struggle to understand is just how much one trillion of anything actually is. $1 trillion is 1,000 billion dollars. Liberals in Congress want to spend at least $4.7 trillion between their infrastructure bill and their reconciliation bill.
Here's how Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) explained the cost of this out-of-control spending:
"If we started stacking 4.7 trillion dollar bills, one on top of each other, that stack would be 318,971 miles tall. That's enough to go to the moon and a third of the way back. This is beyond wasteful -- it's disgusting, irresponsible, and unnecessary. And when is enough, enough? This is saddling our children and grandchildren with debt that literally goes to the moon!"
And then there's the debt limit and the looming government shutdown. Once again, the liberal politicians and their media allies are lying.
They are saying that if Senate conservatives don't cave on funding the government, Social Security checks won't go out. That's a lie. They will continue to go out. This is just another attempt by the left and media to govern through fear.
Don't believe them. Tell your parents and older friends and family members that they will be fine. Usually when the government shuts down no one even notices.
The Voter Conveyor Belt
As we recently reported, many of the Haitian migrants pouring across the border lately aren't coming from Haiti. They're mostly from South America. As they make the journey north, they must travel through Colombia and Panama in a treacherous area known as the Darien Gap.
In the past those countries were only allowing about a few dozen people a day to go through this dangerous path. Now at least 1,000 people a day are trekking through it. And at least 16,000 Haitians are encamped in Necocli, Colombia, waiting to make the trip.
These countries, and Colombia in particular, are getting massive amounts of U.S. aid. All President Biden and Secretary of State Blinken, or even "Border Czar" Harris, would have to do is call those countries and say, "If you want decent relations with the United States, and if you want the dollars to continue, close the Darien Gap and stop the flow of illegal immigration."
But the Biden Administration isn't doing that because they don't want the illegal immigration to stop.
One Haitian migrant interviewed yesterday in southern Mexico was wearing a Biden/Harris shirt. That tells you all you need to know. The left believes that a conveyor belt has been set up to import future liberal voters.
And even though Barack Obama can admit that open borders is "unsustainable," the left still insists on comprehensive immigration reform that gives millions of illegal aliens a path to citizenship. This is a central pillar of the left's effort to "fundamentally transform America."
I believe it is essential that our immigration laws be fully enforced, and that anyone who illegally enters our country be returned to their country of origin as quickly as possible.
That's what having secure borders and full sovereignty means.
