John,
Since Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan, the next steps have been clear: Congress would work on two bills which, together, would rebuild American roads and bridges, and people and our planet. President Biden backed that approach, as did Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
President Biden said:1
Both need to get done, and I’m going to work closely with Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer to make sure that both move through the legislative process promptly and in tandem. Let me emphasize that: and in tandem. We need physical infrastructure, but we also need the human infrastructure as well. They’re a part of my overall plan.
That’s what we’ve been fighting for―the full Build Back Better agenda, including lowering prescription drug prices and expanding Medicare. Donate $7 today to keep up the pressure!
Corporate Democrats have tried to break their deal with President Biden and progressives repeatedly by trying to strip some of the most popular elements out of the Build Back Better Act, which is focused on human infrastructure and climate resilience. They tried to block Medicare from negotiating prescription drug prices. They tried to block expanding Medicare. They’ve tried to cut funding from home and community-based services.
Now, they’re trying to block the whole Build Back Better Act by forcing a separate vote on the infrastructure bill (which folks on Capitol Hill call the BIF) this Thursday night.
We need to be absolutely clear: If the BIF passes without the Build Back Better Act, Build Back Better will not pass.
That means a vote for the BIF without Build Back Better is a vote to:
-
Keep drug prices high
-
Deny dental, vision and hearing care to millions of seniors
-
Force seniors & people with disabilities to go to death-trap nursing homes instead of staying in their homes through expanded home- and community-based care.
Corporate Democrats are counting on progressives to cave, and accept a bill crafted by Republicans and a few of the most conservative Democrats in the Senate as good enough for the Biden agenda.
The American people want the full Build Back Better Agenda to pass―both the Build Back Better Act and the BIF.2 That will only happen if we hold the line this week, and show Corporate Democrats that we’re not backing down.
Donate today to EXPAND Medicare and LOWER prescription drug prices by passing the FULL Build Back Better Act!
Thanks,
