Museum of the Palestinian People to Host "Facing Gaza" Event on Saturday, October 2

What: Exhibit, Music, Film Screening and Food 

“Facing Gaza” is a series of works by Robert Hardwick that grasps, captures and relates the devastation inflicted on Gaza by Israel in 2014, amid the broader social context of Israel’s ongoing occupation of Palestine. Each photo-montage in the series engages one specific day in the 50-day war, bringing into juxtaposition two images posted to Facebook on that day—an image posted by a user in Gaza alongside an image posted that same day by a user in Israel. Each image is stamped with the respective name of the Facebook user, their hometown and the date the image was posted, then cut and glued into a single composite image. Each montage depicts in stark relief two vastly different wartime realities.

2 p.m.: Opening Performance by Luci Murphy. Opening remarks by Museum of the Palestinian People’s executive director Bshara Nassar, guest curator Ahmed Mansour, Malak and her family (featured in Mansour’s “Angel of  Gaza” film) and artist Robert Hardwick Weston.

2:30 p.m.: Foty Fusion Band Performance

4:30 p.m.: Q&A with artist Robert Hardwick Weston

5- 7 p.m.: Gazan food buffet provided by Bawadi Mediterranean Grill. The buffet will be located on the side patio. 

7-9 p.m.: “Angel of Gaza” film screenings in small groups at Middle East Books and More. Watch filmmaker Ahmed Mansour’s 22-minute film, a close-up portrait of an 8-year-old Palestinian child from Gaza. Malak narrates her family’s arduous journey of romance, endless love, sacrifice and reunification with her father, in the U.S., after seven years of forced separation.
