Happy National Voter Registration Day! No matter what our background or political beliefs, we all need to participate
in our democracy for it to work. That’s why, in 2012, our partners created
National Voter Registration Day, a nonpartisan, civic holiday to celebrate the
democratic process and to get as many people registered to vote as possible.
Since 2012, nearly 4.5 million Americans have registered to vote on the holiday,
with 1.5 million of those people registering in 2020 alone.

National Voter Registration Day is especially important for young people, who
face increased barriers to voting and often don’t receive information about the
democratic process. According to post-election 2020 U.S. Census data, over 60 percent of potential
voters aged
18-24 reported being registered to vote, compared to 75 percent of the general
population (1). Reasons range from strict and confusing voter ID laws, to a
recent move.

We want to make sure that no one who is eligible to vote misses out on casting
their ballot. [[link removed]] That’s why Generation Progress is working to register young voters today. We’ve
partnered with Rock the Vote to help people register to vote using our website. Already registered? Take the pledge to vote and make your registration matter!
You can also help by making sure those in your community who are eligible to
vote are registered in time.

See you at the polls!

P.S. Want to make sure our elections are free and fair? Ask your senators to
pass the Freedom to Vote Act—it expands voting rights, prohibits gerrymandering,
and reforms campaign finance laws!
