Dear Friend,
Will you join us and support the fight against hunger? Give today.
This is Emilio, HFA’s Director of Advocacy. I oversee our Food Action Board program, which brings together a group of resilient people who have faced food insecurity and teaches them how to be their own advocates.
One of our Food Action Board Ambassadors is Aracelis, a mother of four young children from Puebla, Mexico who lives in the Bronx and serves as the president of the parents’ association for her kids’ public elementary school.
Due to her immigration status and caring for her pre-school and school-aged children during the pandemic, Aracelis has not been able to work over the last year. For Aracelis, receiving SNAP has been a lifeline for her family. She recently shared with me what the new permanent SNAP increase means to her:
“I want to say thank you to Hunger Free NYC and all the organizations that have helped and advocated for the increase to SNAP. Thanks to the increase, I can provide better quality food for my family.”
Throughout the last five years, Aracelis has been an active member of our Food Action Board, speaking to elected officials, participating in our nutrition education workshops, and conducting SNAP outreach in her community. She has been fearless about using her voice to get urgent pandemic food support for her family and her neighbors.
Hearing from Aracelis and all of our Food Action Board members inspires my advocacy team to continue our work -- ensuring vital policies and programs are enacted so that no one in our country has to face hunger. Till we achieve that goal, we’ll continue to fight for all Americans’ right to nutritious food and connect thousands of families to food resources. Will you join us and support the fight against hunger?
Give today.
Thank you,
Emilio Tavarez
