We’ve all worked really hard these last few years to win back the White House and a majority in Congress, and it’s been frustrating (to say the least) to see the things we fought hard for held hostage by the two authors of 500 op-eds titled “Why The Majority Shouldn’t Do Anything.”
Unfortunately the solution isn’t something that can happen overnight. (Kyrsten Sinema didn’t even RSVP to our Sip ‘n’ Scrap The Filibuster slumber party.) It will take long term investments in building progressive power in states across the country to begin reshaping electorates and the types of representatives that get elected. We saw that in Georgia, where Stacey Abrams’ decade-long project to increase registration among the “New American Majority”—people of color, 18 to 29 year olds, and unmarried women—finally resulted in the state turning blue in 2020.
The stakes couldn’t be higher as we head into 2022. If we don’t hold the House and increase our Senate majority, Trump Republicans will take power and the progressive agenda will be all but dead. What’s more, 2024’s election integrity will be at risk if we don’t protect state-level offices. And don’t get us started on the Supreme Court. Holy shit.
But don’t panic: If you chip in to our No Off Years fund today, you’ll be making an important early investment in the work of organizers in key states ahead of next year’s critical midterm elections. ([link removed])
By donating to our No Off Years fund, you’ll be investing early in voter registration efforts in Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin, places where reaching new voters will help make the difference in our ability to win in 2022 and beyond. The more new voters we register, the sooner we can stop parsing every Joe Manchin statement like Taylor Swift lyrics.
Based on our conversations with organizers in these states and their priorities for the year to come, we’ve set a goal of $1.5 million. That’s a big goal, but we’ve broken it down to help meet the needs of each state so the sooner we get new voters registered, the sooner organizers can begin having conversations with those voters. We're hoping to hit our first $300,000 by the end of September, which is coming up fast. Can you chip in today to help us get there?

Early investment in things like voter registration means more time for organizers to build relationships and expand their work to reach every person. There simply isn’t time to do this when money is coming in the final weeks of a campaign. In Georgia, nearly all eligible voters are now registered because organizers spent the last decade doing the work. Here are some of the gaps we’re hoping to fill in other key states this cycle:
* In Arizona, our partners are leading the charge to register progressives and expand the electorate in advance of what will certainly be a tight Senate race next year, and we’re helping them hit their goal of 12-15,000 new voters registered, which could make a huge difference in a state Joe Biden won by just over 10,000 votes.
* In Florida, we're not giving up yet: There are two competitive statewide races coming up in 2022 for Senate and Governor and while Democrats have a 54,000 edge on Republicans, and the GOP is on pace to overtake Democrats in registration by early 2022, which is why we’re supporting a big progressive registration goal of 400,000 new voters registered.
* North Carolina Democrats have a chance to make a big step forward in advance of a key Senate race. GOP Senator Thom Tillis won re-election in 2020 by less than 97,000 votes – and with a solid registration and GOTV effort, Democrats have a chance to eat away at that margin, which we’ll help them do by hitting a registration goal of 600,000 new voters registered.
* Pennsylvania has two open statewide seats up for grabs, including a major pickup opportunity in the Senate. We were on the edge of our seats in 2020, but Joe Biden won the state by over 80,000 votes and we’re helping to fund on-the-ground programs to register voters this year to help build on that margin.
* Texas has more than 3 million unregistered voters, and with a little more work and a little more time, the dream of a blue Texas is within reach. Democrats lost the state by just 631,000 votes in the presidential race, with even smaller margins down the ballot. To chip away at this gap, we’re supporting Texas Democrats big goal of 2 million new voters registered, who they believe will be likely Democrats.
* Wisconsin is on a perpetual knife’s edge: Joe Biden was able to eke out a win in 2020 by just over 20,000 votes. To keep Wisconsin in the blue column, the WisDems need to be able to start their voter mobilization efforts early – and that starts with a robust voter registration program this year to help build on that margin.
So donate today to our No Off Years fund ([link removed]) and help make an important early investment in the work of organizers in these states in 2022, 2024, and beyond.
