Sign the Petition: Tell Mark Zuckerberg to STOP letting Donald Trump exploit a Facebook loophole to spread dangerous disinformation despite his suspension >>
John, Donald Trump is supposed to be banned from Facebook right now -- but thanks to a massive loophole, he can still run deceptive ads like these through his Save America PAC:
That’s outrageous -- Facebook decided Trump's conspiracy peddling was so harmful that his account was suspended for two full years. So why can he use a PAC that he created and controls to sidestep that suspension? [1]
The answer: Facebook’s enforcement policies are seriously lacking. And unless concerned Facebook users are willing to speak out -- the social media giant may keep letting Trump and other anti-democracy demagogues get away with it.
Add your name if you agree: Facebook must tighten its content moderation policies and close this dangerous loophole immediately.
Here’s what’s going on, John: Trump’s political action committee, the Save America PAC, has been running Facebook ads that may as well be messages from Trump himself -- promoting disinformation, inviting users to donate to Trump’s political efforts, and more.
Facebook is trying to claim that this doesn’t violate Trump’s suspension, so long as the ads are not being posted in Trump’s “voice.” But Facebook’s policy is extremely vague and not rooted in any campaign finance law -- and Trump is taking advantage.
In reality, all communications disseminated by this PAC, which Trump established and controls, are unquestionably in his voice.
Allowing Trump to exploit this loophole only signals to other violators of Facebook’s policies that they too can evade enforcement actions by using a different page run by a political entity under their control.
SIGN NOW: Facebook is setting a dangerous precedent. Urge the platform to subject any pages run by a PAC that’s established, financed, or controlled by an individual to the same content moderation decisions as that individual’s own Facebook account.
If Facebook really wants to combat voter suppression and stop online hate, it must close this massive gap in its policies. I hope you’ll join me in speaking out today.
Thanks for all you do,
