Earlier this month, I reached out regarding the horrifying attack on women's health care in Texas.
In case you missed it: The Texas legislature passed a bill banning abortion as early as six weeks -- which is before most women even know that they're pregnant. That's not all -- the bill also emboldens any private citizen to sue abortion providers and anyone even affiliated with the procedure.
This law went into effect earlier this month because the Supreme Court took no action to block it. But I'm proud to let you know that my colleagues and I have taken action to counter the abortion bill in Texas (and anything else like it) by voting to pass the Women's Health Protection Act.
This vote was a nearly party-line vote -- but let me be clear : Women's health care is not a partisan issue, and a woman's right to make decisions regarding her own health shouldn't be up for debate.
You know that my top priority is delivering results, and the Women's Health Protection Act does just that.
It protects a woman's ability to decide to continue or end a pregnancy -- a decision that is extremely personal and should never be politicized. It would also allow health care providers to offer abortion services without restrictions imposed by individual states like imposing wait periods.
My position on reproductive rights has never changed. I firmly believe that women across the nation should have full autonomy over their bodies, and it's all of our responsibilities to stand up and take action when that right is being threatened.
