All On The Line is digging into the proposed Texas congressional map as we speak. If you’re already concerned, you can send us a donation. [[link removed]] If you’re curious about what this map does, read on.
We knew the Texas redistricting process would be in the national spotlight. It’s one of the four states that some redistricting experts consider the potential path to flip the U.S. House for Republicans.
But I want to zoom in and give you a picture of how the map proposed by the Republican-controlled state Senate would impact Texans.
Here’s the thing our team keeps coming back to as we analyze the maps -- according to the 2020 Census, 95% of population growth in Texas came from communities of color and in suburban and urban communities. The proposed map does not reflect this fact.

Key analysis:
→ In direct contradiction to the census data, the number of majority-white districts increases with this map.
→ The map packs and cracks communities so that there are ZERO competitive districts.
→ The votes from the cities and suburbs of El Paso, San Antonio, Austin, Houston, and Dallas-Fort Worth are drastically diluted.
This proposed map ignores public input, takes away power and representation from communities of color, and works hard to guarantee easy re-election for Republican incumbents who want to stay in office over the next decade.
Help us fight for fair maps in places like Texas, where map manipulators are hellbent on trying to gerrymander their way into a decade of power -- at the expense of voters.

We’re seeing a troubling trend, not just in Texas. Map manipulators are making it hard for voters to raise their concerns -- both at the polls and even now during the redistricting process. In Texas -- the second largest state -- map drawers decided to only hold hearings in the state capitol -- more than 500 miles from El Paso!
Last night, our Texas State Director Gen had a meeting with voters who are going to Austin today to testify in person about the gerrymandered state Senate maps that were proposed last week. And Wednesday night? Her team is holding a training session in anticipation of a hearing on the gerrymandered congressional map.
Our team -- and the All On The Line movement across the country -- is working relentlessly to advocate for and with communities. We just invested tens of thousands of dollars in Texas to support local advocacy efforts.
