The fight to save our democracy from far-right attacks will be coming to a tipping point in the coming weeks with the Freedom to Vote Act expected to face a key vote in the Senate as soon as next week! Because this bill would offer vast improvements in securing our right to vote, we can expect that far-right Republicans in the Senate will filibuster it the first chance they get.
Key senators NEED to be hearing from their constituents on a constant basis to let them know we’re watching their actions (and inaction) at a time when our democracy needs them the most. Here’s where you come in.
Starting this week, we’re partnering with our friends at Common Cause to hold phone banks reaching out to voters in West Virginia and Arizona – home of Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema – to encourage them to demand that the senators either support fixing the filibuster or nixing the filibuster in order to get this critical legislation passed. There are NO other options.
These shifts will always include training for first-time phone bankers, so if you’ve never done this before, we’ll make sure you feel prepared before you begin.
Passing the Freedom to Vote Act would be a monumental step forward for our democracy and the American people. But that won’t happen if Sens. Manchin and Sinema don’t support “fixing or nixing” the filibuster, so we must keep up the pressure. They need to hear from their home state constituents – about how critical it is that the Freedom to Vote Act passes.
