At Alliance For Children, our mission is to protect Tarrant County children from child abuse through teamed investigations, healing services, and community education.
Over the last several months, we have seen higher numbers of reports of child abuse than at any other time in our nearly 30-year history. After the trauma and isolation that COVID-19 created in our society, as our world returns to a more normal setting, child abuse victims are finally around protective adults. For many children, being kept at home during the pandemic meant that they were in an unsafe environment, subject to abuse. As a result, we are now seeing those children make outcries of what they have endured, and our doors and arms are open to help them heal.
Over the past year and a half, the COVID-19 pandemic has created the perfect storm for child abuse. Since April, Alliance For Children has consistently seen the highest numbers of new children on a monthly basis than we have ever served in our history. This uptick in child abuse intakes means more children are receiving forensic interviews, resulting in a greater demand for emergency need services, and an increased need for our counseling programs. As a result, all of our free investigative and healing services are in extremely high demand.
