Hi friend,
When I was growing up, my parents always told me “leave the ladder down for those who come after you.”
That lesson guided me for my entire career in public service fighting for civil rights and working people. And it’s why I officially announced my campaign to be your next Governor -- I want to build a Maryland that lives by the rule: We all succeed when we all succeed.
I know you work hard for every cent you have, friend. So, I wouldn’t ask if it weren’t important: Will you chip in $5 or whatever you can now? The Washington Post says this race will be one of the most expensive in Maryland’s history, and grassroots contributions from supporters like you fuel this campaign. It would mean the world to me if you could set us up for success.

When I talk to folks all across Maryland, I hear the same stories: Families are struggling to get by in the wake of a global pandemic while the wealthy get richer. Racial biases and inequities in health care, housing, education, employment, and criminal justice continue to hurt and hold back thousands of Marylanders. Small business owners are worried they won’t be able to keep their doors open. And many students -- particularly low-income students and students of color -- are being left behind without access to a world-class education.
It’s unacceptable that in one of the richest states in the country, families can’t get the support they need and ZIP code too often determines opportunity. Maryland is punching below its weight, and our government is failing too many families -- I’m running for Governor to change that.
I know we can build a Maryland that works for everyone, where the government has our backs. But I can’t win this fight alone. It’s going to take all of us. So please friend, will you become a Founding Member for my people-powered campaign? I can’t do this without you.

Look, I’m the proud son of immigrants from the Dominican Republic and paid my way through college working on the back of a garbage truck. After law school, I didn’t want to bill hours -- I wanted to help people. I started out as a civil rights prosecutor at the Department of Justice where I took on racism and police brutality, and served on the Montgomery County Council. Then, after two years as Maryland’s Secretary of Labor, I got to work rebuilding the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice and joined President Obama’s cabinet as Secretary of Labor to fight for workers.
Growing up, I could never have imagined that the President would give me such an opportunity to help people, or that I’d be running for Governor. I’m here because it's never been about me. It's been about a team of people fighting together for a better country and a better Maryland.
This race is no different. I’ll need a powerful grassroots team fighting side by side with me. And friend, I want you to be one of the founding members of that team! Will you join me?
