Dear John,

George pig would not be alive today without compassionate friends like you.

George was born at a petting zoo. He was the runt of his litter and developed several medical problems that went undiagnosed and untreated. By the time someone noticed him huddled in the corner of the barn, he was on the brink of losing his life. In fact, when a compassionate human friend asked the owner of the petting zoo if she could take George with her, he agreed because George was “going to die anyway.”

Thankfully, they brought George to the one place that could save his life: Farm Sanctuary!

As soon as George arrived at Farm Sanctuary, our dedicated and experienced team got right to work. We worked with our veterinarians, and they determined that he was severely malnourished, weak from parasites, suffering from a serious urinary tract condition, and having a hard time breathing due to severe pneumonia.

But after weeks of antibiotics, and some tender love and care, George was strong enough to have surgery and begin the final stages of his recovery. Today, he is a happy and healthy pig. And given how his life began, every day here in the peace and comfort of Farm Sanctuary’s New York shelter is a gift from kindhearted friends like you!

October 2nd is World Farm Animals Day. It is also Farm Sanctuary’s annual Giving Day—and we have set a goal of raising enough funds to provide 300,000 meals for the over 800 animals like George lucky enough to call this place home.
