Hello,
Last week, we explained how the status quo of campaign finance is a barrier to electing new leaders, especially servant leaders who have come up through the military and organizations like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps. We told you that New Politics is working to break down that barrier for the candidates we support — people like Dr. Kermit Jones, who launched his campaign earlier this month.
Dr. Kermit’s campaign is facing its first test this week: Thursday is a quarterly fundraising deadline. Please take a moment to read more about this incredible man and why he’s the kind of leader we need in Congress. Then, consider splitting a donation of $25 or more between Dr. Kermit Jones for Congress and New Politics.
Growing up on a family farm, Kermit Jones learned the value of hard work at an early age. That work ethic put him on a path to success when, as a student in medical school, the tragedy of 9/11/01 struck. Dr. Kermit felt called to serve, and he answered that call by joining U.S. Navy and becoming a flight surgeon, deploying to Iraq with a Marine squadron that took injured service members and Iraqi civilians to safety. Dr. Kermit’s service continued out of uniform, when he worked as a White House Fellow under President Obama to improve quality of care for our veterans.
Now a primary care physician, Dr. Kermit serves his community and has treated over 20,000 patients. Amid the deadliest public health crisis of our lifetimes, he's answering the call to serve again, and we're proud to endorse his campaign.
Dr. Kermit is the kind of leader we need in Congress: he’s demonstrated his commitment to serving others his whole life, and he’ll put country first, not partisan politics. But incumbent politicians have a 96% reelection rate, so Dr. Kermit faces an uphill battle. The fundraising deadline on September 30th will be the first major test of his campaign’s viability.
Invest in a new generation of leaders like Dr. Kermit by splitting a contribution between his campaign and New Politics today. Every dollar gets us closer to revitalizing our democracy.
