Dear Friend, |
At last week’s United Nations General Assembly, President Biden called for international cooperation to fight the climate crisis and touted his administration’s climate progress. On the ground, where we’ve faced a summer of climate-fueled wildfires, floods, and hurricanes, it’s clear that our government must do more to combat this existential threat to humanity and our planet. |
Experts warn that we must take unprecedented action to transform our economy to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. While the Biden administration and Congress have taken some important steps forward, it isn’t nearly enough to protect and preserve life on this planet. We are counting on President Biden and Congress to do everything in their power to move our country away from fossil fuels towards zero-emissions and 100% clean energy. We are heartened to see the President using his influence to press for passage of the Build Back Better Act that would result in the largest investment our nation has ever made in climate and environmental justice. Now, Congress needs to step up and pass it. |
But at the same time, the President is refusing to stop construction of the Line 3 Pipeline, allowing the Dakota Access Pipeline to continue operating, supporting drilling in the Western Arctic, and opened up the Gulf to oil and gas leasing days after Hurricane Ida hit its shores. Our leaders can’t simply echo the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s declaration that the climate crisis is “code red for humanity,” they must match words with action. We’re going to keep making noise and pushing for the change we know we need, and we’re not going to stop until our leaders get the message that enough is enough – it’s time for bold action. Join us in this fight, and help convince our leaders they must rise to the occasion. |
