Finding affordable child care while working in construction can be tough. This workshop will provide an overview of three strategic child care initiatives to support parents in the trades. It also will present new research by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research on tradeswomen’s child care needs and women’s advancement and retention in the trades.

Strategies include:

The Moore Community House Women in Construction program in Mississippi, a unique combination of construction/manufacturing job training for women and child care assistance
“Care That Works” in the Boston area, formed by a coalition of grassroots community groups and labor unions to offer a non-standard-hour child care pilot
Oregon’s child care assistance fund for apprentices paid for from Federal Highway and local workforce board dollars
