Hi Friend,
In case you hadn’t heard, Abbott's third extra legislative session is in full swing, and redistricting is at the top of his agenda. Here’s what that means for Texas.
This month, our state legislators are redrawing the lines for our electoral districts based on the results of the 2020 Census. This process is called redistricting, and it means our lawmakers are going to be making crucial decisions that affect Texans’ ability to fairly choose our elected leaders for the next ten years. With our end-of-quarter fundraising deadline right around the corner, we need everyone to chip in so we can fight to ensure every Texan is fairly represented.
Friend, Republicans have always used the redistricting process as yet another chance to unfairly amplify their power and shut down the voices of Black and Brown Texans. The last time Republicans had control of the redistricting process was in 2010, and the map they drew resulted in Texas being one of the most gerrymandered states in the country. In fact, Texas has been found in violation of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 every decade since its passage because of Republicans’ discriminatory redistricting practices.
This time around, we can’t let Texas Republicans erase Black and Brown voters from our electoral maps. Texas Republicans have seen the writing on the wall: when we all make our voices heard at the ballot box, we’ll vote them out. Friend, one major way we can fight back against partisan and racial gerrymandering, put an end to this flagrant Republican power grab, and protect the power of our voices is by registering as many new Democrats to vote as we can. But in order to make that happen, we need every member of our movement to do their part.

Every voter deserves to have their vote count. Every voter deserves fair representation. And our Democratic leaders are fighting hard to make sure that happens. This is the latest battle in the fight for our future. We’re not letting up.
In solidarity,
