It’s not an exaggeration to say that this week will be one of the most consequential I’ve seen in Congress. I’ll be fighting for you every moment of it.
Big news: Today’s scheduled vote on the smaller infrastructure bill was postponed.
This is a huge victory for our progressive movement and a testament to our grassroots organizing. Here’s why: Corporations, Big Pharma, and a few Conservative Democrats wanted a vote on the smaller bill today to move it forward WITHOUT investments in our priorities — from economic relief to climate action.
But progressives organized inside and outside of Congress to demand that we not leave behind working families and communities by leaving behind investments in health care, universal child care, pre-k, paid leave, climate action, housing, health care, and a roadmap to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS recipients, and essential workers.
I even took our movement’s case to the Oval Office, and now the vote is being delayed to ensure we have the time necessary to pass the full Build Back Better Act WITH our priorities included. A deal is a deal, and we’re sticking to it.
But this win is only a first step, and we know that corporations will only increase their spending blitz to defeat us. We have to hold the line and deliver this transformative agenda — can you chip in $3 or more to help me keep the pressure on my colleagues to finally deliver on the change we promised working people?
