Hi,
As a teacher, I used to tell my students: if you have good ideas and you think that you can make a difference and contribute, you should think about running for office. Now, I’m following my own advice because I believe I can contribute and make a difference as governor of Maryland.
As you’ve probably heard though, I’m running in a crowded field of Democrats in a race that is set to be the most expensive in our state’s history. Election day might seem far away, and maybe you haven’t decided who you will support yet. That’s okay! But I still have a favor to ask:
|
My story is one of second chances. Both of my parents passed away by the time I was twelve. Like many kids who have experienced trauma, I struggled as a teenager and was kicked out of high school. While many people could have given up on me, phenomenal public educators saved my life and inspired me to become a teacher—and eventually, President Obama’s Secretary of Education.
|
I was given a second chance because of high functioning public institutions, and now I’m running for governor of Maryland to ensure others get the same opportunity to succeed. If you think that’s a message voters should hear, please contribute whatever you can today. Your investment will ensure we have the resources to run ads, build a strong field team, and share my story with as many voters as possible.

Thank you for your commitment,
John
