Now — do you know why political campaigns make such a fuss about these FEC fundraising deadlines? Why do we send so many emails and text messages, especially towards the end of each month?
It’s because when these deadlines end, campaigns are legally required to report not only how much money we’ve raised over the past 3 months, but how many donations we received, too.
That means you can guarantee next week, our opponents, like the ones in the fossil fuel industry, are going to be pouring over the receipts to see how we did. It’s what they do.
If they see small numbers, they’ll see that as enthusiasm for our movement slowing down.
They’ll crank up the attacks on our progressive allies running in tough races. They’ll call their wealthy and powerful friends, and reach deeper into their endless pocketbooks to flood the airwaves in swing districts across the country with right-wing garbage.
But if they see a big number, they’ll know the truth: that we’re just getting started.
Every donation ahead of this deadline — no matter how big or small — sends a message. A message that our movement stands strong, and stands together.
