Dear Supporter,

We are proud to launch our new training in Bystander Intervention to support Latinx communities in Public Spaces.  We are offering this free, one-hour, interactive webinar, in honor of Latinx Heritage Month (September 15th - October 15th) and to bring awareness to the increase of harassment toward the Latinx community in recent years.

According to a 2018 Pew Research Center study, 38% of Latinos say they have suffered some type of discrimination based on their identity, including being criticized for speaking Spanish or being told to go back to their country.

We have adapted our Hollaback!’s 5D’s of bystander intervention to teach you how to safely intervene in the face of harassment. During the training, we’ll start by reviewing the types of harassment the Latinx community is experiencing right now and how these violent events have impacted them. We will then discuss how the Latinx community can experience public spaces differently based on how each person identifies, and how often intersecting marginalized identities make the community even more vulnerable.

Then we’ll talk through our five strategies for intervention: distract, delegate, document, delay, and direct; and what to consider when intervening.  We’ll also talk about what to do if you’re a person of color worried the violence will turn on you, and if you are an ally, how to avoid being a “white savior”.

We’ll have time in the end for practice, and you’ll leave feeling more confident intervening and supporting the Latinx community when you witness them experiencing harassment in public spaces.

We invite you to register for these upcoming public training dates:
