John, I know it’s Monday and you’re probably still digging out of your inbox just like I’m digging out of mine, so I’ll get right to the point:

We simply can’t afford to lose her voice in Congress, but an FEC deadline is coming up fast on Thursday and she’s just shared with me that she’s falling behind on her grassroots goal. For decades, the conscience of Congress has come from Georgia — starting with my friend and hero, John Lewis. Lucy McBath’s clear voice for gun safety reforms calls forth the same moral courage that John’s voice did for civil rights.

She, too, turned her personal trauma into social progress. She, too, challenges both Congress and our whole nation to build a better, fairer, and safer world. She, too, can help lead us there — but only if we all do our part to help her hold her seat.

Lucy was the first Democrat in decades to flip GA-06 — the same seat once held by Newt Gingrich — and the GOP is already chomping at the bit to take it back. We know they will spend or say anything it takes, because they know their path to retaking the House runs right through Lucy’s district — just like retaking the Senate also starts in Georgia.

I won’t mince words here: Unless Lucy can keep hitting her fundraising goals each month and quarter, there’s a good chance that her seat could get lost in the surge of GOP spending we know is headed to Georgia and her district.

We simply can’t let that happen — too much progress rests on these fragile majorities, and I can’t imagine us building back a better America without my colleague Lucy McBath in Congress.
