Hi John,

This 1 stat will shock you: did you know there are 28 empty homes for every homeless person in the U.S.?

In a country with 28x the empty homes as homeless people, there is no excuse for 550,000 people to be homeless every night, including 37,000 veterans. If you agree, please donate $7 now so I can fight in Congress to end homelessness for good.

With that many empty homes, the problem isn’t solely supply. The problem is people (and investment companies) sitting on the supply and not using it for housing. That’s why one of my proposals for solving the housing crisis in this country is a vacancy tax on empty housing.

Money from that tax — as well as additional federal funds — should then be used to buy empty housing and turn them into social housing.

Places like Vienna, which has social housing and rent control, successfully keep prices low for both renters and homeowners.

Here in the U.S., it will take politicians with backbone and with independence from the real estate lobby to push for policies like these.

I’m a housing rights organizer who has occupied empty buildings to get housing for homeless people, and I’ll keep taking the necessary bold stands in Congress. But first, I need your help to get there because I don’t take any corporate PAC money.

Please give $7 — or $1 — here:
