Already, several states have released, and even passed, proposed maps for the next decade's worth of elections. Others are holding hearings to start the process. Unfortunately, we are seeing exactly the underhanded behavior from Republicans that we warned about: attempts to keep the public out of redistricting as well as full-on map manipulation.

The NDRC is on the ground working as hard as we can to engage the public, demand fair maps, and hold GOP politicians politically accountable, but time is short and how much we can do depends on you. I hope to see us increase our donations from DC supporters today. Can you pitch in to help our team fight for fairness?

Just this month we saw Ohio Republicans pass maps even worse than their 2011 gerrymanders, and I fear we may see the same in Texas in the coming weeks. But let me tell you about what's happening nationally.

Senate Democrats came together to draft an updated bill, the Freedom to Vote Act , that will strengthen and protect voting rights, including banning partisan gerrymandering of congressional districts. We’ve never needed it more. It is imperative that this bill pass the Senate and go to President Biden's desk for his signature.

Majority Leader Schumer has promised to hold a vote on the Freedom to Vote Act. Republicans have obstructed voting rights legislation thus far, yet again proving that they only care about hanging onto power. But Democrats will keep working to get this bill over the finish line, including the NDRC and our grassroots community. We need to get this done soon, before the GOP's state-level gerrymandering and voter suppression, combined with their lies about the 2020 election, destroy our democracy.

The moment we are in is fraught with peril, John. Everything we do is taking on a heightened importance, which is why I hope I can count on your support. This community has always been there for us in the past, and I need you again now.
