Friends -
Last week, under skies filled with smoke and ash, I signed California’s largest climate action package to combat the climate crisis and protect our communities.
The legislation — a $15 billion package — includes investments to fight catastrophic fires, address the impacts of drought, protect vulnerable communities from climate risks like deadly heat waves, and advance California’s zero emission vehicle goals.
But while we feel a deep sense of responsibility here because of the unique impact climate change has had on our state, we need action from Congress as well.
Right now, the reconciliation bill being debated in Congress would be one of the largest and most aggressive national efforts to combat climate change. It would help transform our nation’s energy systems, cut carbon emissions and create jobs.
We need it to pass. Because California cannot be the only ones treating climate change like it is — an emergency.
Please add your name to say you agree:
If you want to know why things are the way they are today with the climate crisis, look to the decisions of the past in this country and around the world.
If you want to know what the future will look like with the climate crisis, look at the decisions we are making today.
California is taking action. Now we need Congress to do the same.
All my best,
Gavin
