For far too long, our leaders in Washington have failed to take the climate crisis seriously. Temperatures are rising. Pollution is getting worse. “Storms of the century” have become a regular occurrence.
And yet, while people like Dan Lipinski sit on their hands, the time to find a solution to the crisis of climate change is quickly running out.
Climate change is the most acute threat to our security, safety and health. The time to act is now.
Climate change is an emergency, and each of us are first responders. If we want to keep this planet inhabitable for our children and grandchildren, we need a comprehensive proposal like the Green New Deal, a bold blueprint for change that will get us to net-zero emissions, create a thriving green-sector job market, and provide a just transition away from a fossil fuel driven economy.
As far as Dan Lipinsk is concerned, it would be easier to ignore the threat posed by climate change and continue to treat it as something far-off that won’t affect us. But I didn’t run for Congress to run away from our nation’s biggest issues. I am running to face them head on. The climate crisis is an emergency we can’t afford to kick it down the road.
In solidarity,
Marie
