John, we’ll be quick. In a moment, we’re going to ask you to contribute $5 to help elect Jessica Cisneros to Congress before our end-of-quarter fundraising deadline. But before we do, please give us a chance to explain why this request is so crucial:
In just 4 days, we are facing the most important milestone of this entire campaign so far: Our very first Federal Election Commission (FEC) deadline since launching our campaign. This Thursday, we are required by law to close the books on our first quarter and report all our fundraising numbers to the public.
Now, here are a few key reasons why this is a huge deal ⬇
1. First, all eyes are on the TX-28 House race. Jessica has an opportunity to defeat an incumbent and bring progressive change to South Texas. So Henry Cuellar’s conservative pundits are going to gauge our FEC report as a sign of our campaign’s momentum. The more we raise, the more we can propel our campaign to victory. But the less we raise means we won’t be able to compete with Henry Cuellar’s $1.743 million dollar fundraising war chest.
2. Second, Republicans are keeping their eyes on this race too! If more people give, it will send a clear message about the resilience of our movement heading into the primary and general elections. Our opponents, especially Texas Republicans, are expecting us to post low numbers, and so we need to show them the exact opposite.
3. Lastly, if we can raise $8,188 by midnight, we’ll be on track to hit our $17,000 goal by September 30. We are so close to hitting this benchmark. If we hit our goal, we will be able to blow away the expectations of everyone (including the naysayers) watching and fund the tools we need to defeat Henry Cuellar and elect Jessica Cisneros to Congress.
Our first FEC deadline has never been more important. If we reach $17,000 in the next 5 days, it'll impact our campaign for the better. But Henry Cuellar’s corporate special interest groups are backing his re-election campaign, full stop. So we need every last grassroots dollar so we can get to prevail, and that is exactly why we are emailing you today.
