Steven Menashi's ideology is at odds with Human Needs, and his lifetime appointment to serve on the Second Circuit Count of Appeals would endanger the rights of low-income and vulnerable people.
Menashi's history suggests he would use his power as a judge to roll back our hard-fought rights — for a lifetime (and he’s only 40 years old):
While in college his writings denounced LGBTQ rights and mocked anti-rape activists. He pushed xenophobic conspiracy theories and attacked need-based financial assistance because it "punished families that had the foresight and prudence to save for their children's education.” Most frightening is his belief in ethnonationalism — or that a democracy can't work unless the country is defined by one race or ethnicity.
Menashi is currently part of the White House immigration working group tasked with advancing Stephen Miller's racist and xenophobic immigration policies. Prior to that role, he helped Education Secretary Betsy DeVos roll back protections for sexual assault survivors and transgender students.
During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Menashi refused to answer which controversial policies he advised on and dodged questions about his involvement in Trump’s policies. Even Republican Senators Lindsey Graham and John Kennedy were frustrated by his stonewalling.
