Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good Afternoon,

As you might have heard, this week I was unable to return back to Washington, D.C. After experiencing persisting gastrointestinal problems, my doctors recommended the removal of my gallbladder. Doctors also recommend I not fly, due to my condition and the risk of contracting COVID-19 which would delay my surgery. I am remaining in Arizona until my surgery is complete and I am recovered.

I am closely monitoring all that is happening in the U.S. House of Representatives and remaining in touch with constituents and local leaders about all that is going on in our community. As always, my staff is available to assist with anything you need!

In the News

I want to make sure that you don’t miss a minute of what I’m doing to fight for our Arizona values each and every day. Click below to check out some of my latest press clips.

Legislative Update

I joined with Representative Brian Babin (R-TX) to demand the National Archives remove their “harmful content” warnings from online copies of Founding-era documents, including the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. These documents are not harmful content, they are documents are part of American history. We should be proud of these documents and must not erase our history.

GET THE FACTS: Dems’ Radical Push for Abortion

As you might have heard, this week, House Democrats voted to legalize abortion on demand up until birth. This is absolutely horrifying! The Democrats’ Women’s Health Protection Act, better known as the Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act, codifies a right to abortion until the birth of the baby in federal law and prevents states from enforcing their own pre-existing laws that protect unborn babies. This bill prevents government entities from enacting any limitation or requirement that “expressively, effectively, implicitly, or as implemented singles out” and “impedes access to” abortion – thus invalidates every pro-life law in our nation. This bill also puts those who conscientiously oppose abortion at risk of losing their jobs.

Around the District

Michael from my office attended a ribbon cutting with Building Homes for Heroes, which builds or modifies homes for those who were injured during their time serving in the United States Military. I am proud of all the work they do for our brave veterans! Congratulations to this local veteran on their new home!

Encouraging Story

I am pleased to share this story about Phoenix, AZ resident Yvonne Wan, who is offering free comic book classes to children with autism and other disabilities. Ms. Wan created one of the world’s first autistic superheroes to show children with special needs what they can do, rather than what they cannot. Ms. Wan hopes to raise the self-confidence of children with special needs through art. Thanks to Ms. Wan for shining a light on children with special needs and making them feel like superheroes!

Casework Highlight

A constituent reached out to our office because someone fraudulently changed her banking information and took 14 of her social security payments. Our office reached out to the Social Security Administration and the Office of the Inspector General was notified, which resulted in the constituent being refunded.
