This week, US President Joe Biden rallied world leaders to support a first-of-its kind goal to end the pandemic everywhere: vaccinate 70% of the world’s population in every country by September 2022, alongside important targets on PPE, oxygen, and therapeutics. It's a very welcome start, but now the real work begins.

Dear world leaders,

We want the pandemic to end. With COVID-19 still raging globally and millions of people left vulnerable to the virus, inaction is not an option. We are urging you to adopt a global plan to vaccinate 70% of adults in all countries by September 2022 and end the pandemic everywhere once and for all.

Three vaccine updates for September

💉Most countries endorsed the 70% target announced this week, including the EU, Canada, Italy, and Japan and billions of dollars worth of commitments were made including further pledges to share vaccine doses with countries in need. However, there is a huge gap between what's already been promised and what's actually been delivered.

💉A Global Vaccination Partnership was announced between the EU and US to help expand supply, improve coordination in delivery, and remove bottlenecks to supply chains.

💉Amnesty International released a new report describing leading COVID-19  pharmaceutical companies as "fuelling an unprecedented human rights crisis." Despite increasing pressure from the Biden administration, the World Health Organization, and a host of African leaders, Pfizer has donated less than 1% of its production to low-income countries, while Moderna hasn’t sent a single dose.

Voices for Change: bringing your voices to COP26

This November, world leaders will gather in Glasgow, Scotland at the UN Climate Change Conference (known as COP26) for a critical summit in the fight against the climate crisis. For us to tackle the world’s greatest challenges, from ending poverty to reducing inequalities and fulfilling everyone’s human rights, climate action must be achieved and the Global Goals must be realised.
