John -- We are in the midst of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15), and it’s a good time to reflect on Latino representation in Congress. In its 232 year history, a total of 12,415 people have been elected to Congress. Out of that number, only 136 have been Latino. Out of that 136, only 22 have been Latina. Latinos make up nearly 20% of the total U.S. population, but even with the current peak of Latino representation in the 116th Congress, only 47 (8.7%) members are Latino. We clearly have a long way to go. In 2022 we’re going to build on that by electing Angelica Dueñas (CA-29), Brittany Ramos DeBarros (NY-11), and Stephanie Gallardo (WA-09) -- each of whom would be the first Latinas to represent their districts. BNC was founded to build a Congress that reflects the full range of the lived experiences of working people in America, and key to that goal is electing more women and more people of color. We see the urgent need for that representation reflected in the policies Congress continues to promote -- policies that intrinsically enrich their wealthy donors while working people are left to struggle. For people of color to be represented in our policies, we need people of color elected to the seats where these decisions get made. That is the never-ending work of Brand New Congress, and we couldn’t do it without you. Thank you for being in this movement with us. The entire team at Brand New Congress P.S. We are days away from a crucial FEC fundraising deadline and still short of our goal for the month. When we miss our targets, we have to scale back the services we are able to offer candidates on our slate. Can you pitch in any amount today to get us back on track?
