Smoke is particularly risky for young kids. I watch some of them struggle with asthma and other complications from climate change and our deteriorating environment.

Here's an update on our air quality in the Central Valley, John.

As wildfires rage across our state, you may have seen the health advisories telling folks to stay in doors. The impact of smoke and air pollution on our kids can't be understated, especially with the Delta variant continuing to surge.

Our skies are looking grim these days (photo credit: Kern Valley Sun).

I can't help but think of the kids I teach. Smoke is very harmful for them -- especially during recess. I've watched some struggle with asthma and other complications due to climate change and our deteriorating environment.

It's not just from fires. According to the American Lung Association, three of the ten smoggiest cities in the entire country are right here in California’s Central Valley. It breaks my heart, but more than anything it makes me mad. We need policies that address our air quality issues, but time and time again crooked politicians like Kevin McCarthy block these policies and deny they exist.

I believe in science. I believe in reducing carbon emissions. We deserve better than McCarthy who would rather defend the furthest-right wing members of his party like Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene than work on this issue.

That's a big part of why I'm running to replace Kevin McCarthy and why I'm asking:

If you are ready to be part of the solution, will you chip in $3 toward my end-of-quarter deadline today? The future for all of our kids and grandchildren is on the line, and we can't waste time with someone like Kevin McCarthy who refuses to give these issues the attention they deserve.
