Urging the Corps to Expedite Blue Roof Installations
Earlier this week, I called on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to expedite Blue Roof installations to provide relief for homeowners, and I expressed serious concerns regarding the slow rollout of Operation Blue Roof.
With more than 60,000 individuals registered for the program, it is imperative that the rate of installations be ramped up to meet the needs of disaster victims. The current timeframe is unacceptable, and the longer it takes to install temporary roofs for homeowners will prolong inadequate living conditions for families and cause further damage to houses waiting for repairs.
Pressing FEMA on Housing Assistance
I hosted a follow-up call with parish officials, FEMA, and GOHSEP this week to make sure real progress is being made to address the current housing shortage for thousands of families displaced by Hurricane Ida.
I will continue to push FEMA to make sure they fully respond to the needs of the people of South Louisiana.
Red Snapper Update
Earlier this week, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced it would re-open the recreational red snapper season starting on September 24th. The season will now operate seven days per week until further notice and the bag limit in Louisiana will be doubled to four fish per person each day.
This is excellent news for our recreational anglers and, if you like to fish as I do, I hope you're able to get out on a boat, put your poles down in the water, and catch a few red snapper this weekend!
Pelosi's House Majority Votes to Legalize Abortion On-Demand
On Friday, Congressional Democrats passed Speaker Pelosi's far-left, pro-abortion legislation, which will codify and expand access to abortion and invalidate every pro-life law in the country. This legislation should really be called the “Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act.”
This is an absolutely horrifying vote that devalues the sacredness of innocent human life by legalizing abortions on demand until birth in the United States. This legislation eliminates nearly all pro-life policies across the country.
I will continue to fight for legislation that protects the rights of the unborn and safeguards women's health and well-being while recognizing the sanctity of life.
