We Have a Primary

As you may have heard, we have a primary opponent. I found out while I was participating in a Crisis Intervention Training with first responders in Jefferson County. Shortly after several sessions on the importance of de-escalation and communication, I was talking with a group of officers during a break and asking for their input on our anti-violence plan, which we’ll be releasing soon.

An officer was scrolling through his phone and said, “Hey, you’re in the news.”
“Hopefully something good!”
“There’s a guy running against you.”
“Oh.”

He scrolled some more. He paused. And then he said, “Well, that sucks.”
“It’s OK.”
“Just go win. I hope you win.”

That was my 249th meeting in Missouri in less than a year. Meeting 250 was about diversion programs and how to get folks who have served their time in prison better integrated into society, and meeting 251 was about health care, all three meetings on the same day.

Many of you have been here since meeting number 1 back in November of last year. Even more of you have joined on somewhere in between. You’re all here because you know how important this is. You know that we need an Attorney General who is looking out for us.

We’re doing a lot of new things on this campaign. We’re the most transparent campaign in America. We’ve rejected dark money, corporate money, and big money because we’re done having a government that is bought. We’ve involved the community in shaping policy and in our campaign like no candidate for this office has ever done before.

But most importantly, we’ve shown up. That’s been the pride of this campaign, and it’s becoming the pride of so many people in our state. We show up for Missouri.

This is going to be an important year. It’s going to be a rewarding one. And it’s going to go by very quickly.

We all need to show up. Whether that’s donating your money or donating your time, we need to get this done. We need to fix our state. We need you.

If you can,
donate. Give your time. Host a fun get-together so I can meet your friends.

Let’s get this done for Missouri.
