Dear NRDC Activist,
The U.N. just released a devastating new report underscoring the severity of the climate crisis. Their findings stress that we MUST reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, before it's too late to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.
Thankfully, the Biden administration recently announced it was re-establishing and strengthening vehicle emissions and fuel economy standards that had been gutted by the Trump administration. This is so important because transportation is the largest source of carbon pollution in the U.S.
Transitioning away from gas-guzzling, climate-busting cars and trucks — and getting more electric vehicles on the roads — is one of THE most important things we can do to stop the climate crisis. And it's a key part of President Biden's Build Back Better agenda.
NRDC applauds yet another historic action by the Biden administration to restore leadership in the fight against climate action. But the administration's default proposal falls short of the emissions reductions we need to avert climate catastrophe. The new standard allows too many giveaways, or "credits", to the automobile industry, which could cut short our carbon pollution reductions by a large margin.
Biden's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is accepting public comments on the proposed clean car standards until September 27th.
We need 50,000 climate activists like you to submit an urgent public comment urging Biden's EPA and DOT to take the next step in reducing emissions from transportation by strengthening their proposed clean car and fuel economy standards. Will you join us?
We're already seeing the devastating effects of climate change firsthand, with disproportionate impacts on frontline communities — predominantly low-income communities and communities of color.
Stronger clean car and fuel economy standards will give a major boost to our effort to shift to clean electric vehicles and fight the climate crisis. And crucial investments in EVs and EV charging stations — key elements of Biden's Build Back Better agenda — will help bring down the cost of EVs so they're more affordable for all.
Take action now: Submit an official public comment to President Biden's EPA and DOT imploring them to adopt stronger standards that will deliver the same carbon reductions as the Obama-era rules. We must strengthen this critical climate measure and double down on fighting the climate crisis.
With the release of the U.N.'s climate report, Congress negotiating once-in-a-generation climate legislation, and upcoming global summits on climate change, we have a truly unprecedented chance to meet the demands of the climate crisis head-on. But this opportunity won't last long, and we MUST take advantage of it to preserve our planet for future generations.
, can we count on you to stand with us and take urgent action to stop climate change today?
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Luke Tonachel
