As the youngest member of the Senate, I look forward to every opportunity to open door to the legislative and political process to the young people in our community. Of course I love sponsoring pages, but we also create opportunities to shadow me for a day and volunteer at events. And this past session I was proud to prime sponsor a bill naming our legislative internship program after the one and only Senator Rosa Franklin, and creating a scholarship program to help support low-income students for whom the housing and transportation costs might otherwise be a barrier.
Making room for young leaders is important to me. It's why my annual fundraiser is going to focus on young people and their bright ideas. Because young people aren't only the leaders of tomorrow -- they're already leading in their classrooms, communities, and across the country *today*.
Youth are standing up in their school board meetings, organizing mutual aid efforts, organizing for climate justice and reproductive rights, and even introducing policy at city councils and in the legislature.

Join me, your friends and neighbors, and sponsors including Squaxin Island Tribe, SEIU 775, Young Democrats of Kitsap County and SEIU Local 925 on October 16th from 3-5pm at an *outdoor* celebration to honor some incredible young people with bright ideas!
We'll have snacks & music, laughter, and plenty of applause for the bright young people we're celebrating. This outdoor event is family friendly. We'll gather under the covered recess shelter at Naval Avenue Elementary, with playground equipment nearby.
