My friend,

Abortion care has never been at greater risk during our lifetimes than it
is right now.

This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Women’s Health
Protection Act (WHPA) and sent it on to the Senate. Just two days ago,
however, Florida’s far-right anti-choice legislators introduced a bill
that directly copies Texas’s infamous S.B. 8, which effectively bans
abortion care after only six weeks of pregnancy and enables anti-choice
“bounty hunters.”

Texas’s draconian S.B. 8 has prompted at least six other states, including
Florida, to write their own copycat bills^[1] – bills that would prevent
people from receiving critical reproductive health care and put millions
of lives at risk.

We cannot let this happen. To prevent the grave dangers that will continue
to spread as more anti-abortion laws are enacted, the Senate needs to pass
WHPA without delay.

The Women’s Health Protection Act (S.1975) would provide federal
protections for reproductive health care broadly and abortion care
specifically – and it’s designed to put an end to, and declare illegal,
restrictive laws like S.B. 8 and its copycats. Passing WHPA would lift
barriers to care that disproportionately harm people of color, LGBTQ+
people, people with disabilities, low-income people, and people living in
rural areas, especially in states where outrageous laws to virtually
eliminate abortion access are being passed right now.

With the fate of Roe v. Wade resting in the hands of a radical right-wing
Supreme Court, we don't have time to waste. To save every person’s right
to access abortion care – and the countless lives at risk – we need urgent
action in the Senate.
