Right now in America, veterans are facing a firearm suicide crisis, with veterans using firearms more than any other means of suicide. In fact, an estimated 17 veterans die by suicide every day, 12 of which is by gun suicide — a suicide rate that is one and a half times the rate for non-veteran adults.
We launched Service Never Stops to encourage the veteran community to store their firearms securely to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Together, we can end family fire.
Thank you, Team Brady
RSVP Now! Our Virtual Event with Rep. Steven Horsford (NV-04) on Community Violence Intervention Black and Brown communities face the brunt of gun violence in America, yet community violence intervention (CVI) strategies that are proven effective at saving lives have long been underfunded. We can change that! President Biden’s Build Back Better Act and Rep. Horsford’s Break the Cycle of Violence Act would provide historic funding for CVI.
Join us on Monday, September 27, to learn more about the life-saving impact of CVI from Greg Jackson of the Community Justice Action Fund, Erica Ford of LIFE Camp, Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV), and Christian Heyne of Brady. Help Us Urge Ace to Adopt Responsible Business Practices! In recent years, Ace Hardware has sold firearms to prohibited purchasers that have resulted in deadly consequences, including in Chicago and Wisconsin. We privately called on Ace Hardware leadership to change their business practices. But they ignored our calls.
Now, we need your help urging Ace Hardware Corporation to improve their business practices to safely and responsibly sell guns. Will you sign and share our petition right now? 🎧 Episode 149: Showing up for Wendi Winters
Journalist Wendi Winters was 65 years old when she was shot and killed at the Capital Gazette in 2018. She is remembered as a hero for charging the shooter to protect her colleagues and for a lifetime of service to her family and community. Wendi left behind four children, including Summerleigh Winters Geimer, who started to make videos in the aftermath of the shooting about grief, gun violence prevention, and the court trial. We're joined by Summerleigh to talk about her mom and common misconceptions about gun violence. 🎧 FROM THE ARCHIVES: Law Enforcement, Suicide, and Blue Help
This National Suicide Prevention Awareness month, we’re highlighting episodes by “Red, Blue, and Brady” to spread awareness about gun suicide and solutions to prevent it.
Police officers are at a higher risk of suicide than any other profession, and the vast majority of officers who take their lives do so at home, using their service weapons. We’re joined by Steve Hough of Blue HELP to discuss what we can do as activists to decrease rates of firearm suicide in the law enforcement community.
