John — This has been another historic week for care workers and we couldn’t have done it without supporters like you!
As the House and Senate convene to move historic infrastructure and reconciliation packages, home care workers, care consumers, advocates, electeds and supporters gathered in D.C. and online for rallies to support Congressional action to pass a robust investment in home care. If passed, these packages will deliver jobs, care and justice for the 2.3 million home care workers in the U.S., and the millions more who depend on their work.
It was amazing to see our communities come together to show their power at the #WelcomeBackCongress March for Care, Citizenship and Climate, the Time to Deliver: Home Care Can’t Wait rally and at today’s rally for care hosted by Speaker Pelosi — and we want to be sure you are a part of it all.
Get inspired by some of the amazing moments from this past week:
In addition to these events, we're excited to share the release of two videos: a special Family Meeting between Vice President Kamala Harris and family caregiver, Jamie Davis Smith, about dependence on home care and life in the sandwich generation and a short film, No Shortcuts To Change, executive produced by Angela Bassett and starring actress Sherri Shepherd.
Domestic workers and supporters like you from around the country have been taking action online and offline this August recess! We held town halls focused on our demands for care and citizenship, domestic workers met with members of Congress, published op-eds, and took to the streets. Together, we have delivered thousands of petition signatures and made impactful calls to our representatives.
Stay tuned for more calls to action as we head into the homestretch in our fight to win this much needed investment in homecare and a path to citizenship this year. It is critical that our lawmakers recognize that investing in care and citizenship is necessary for our country to truly build back better.
Thank you for all you do,
Care Team
National Domestic Workers Alliance
Thank you for being a dedicated supporter of the National Domestic Workers Alliance!
We're working day and night to win respect, recognition, and labor rights and protections for the more than 2.5 million nannies, house cleaners, and homecare workers.
The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.
Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
