The FBI recently published data showing America's murder rate rose by almost 30 percent in 2020. This is the biggest rise in murder we've seen since we started keeping record in 1960!
In Houston, the city I call home, the number is even higher. From 2020 to 2021, there has been a 35 percent increase in homicides.
Despite the startling increase in crime, Democrats are still calling to "Defund the Police." Give me a break! Their rallying cry was at an all-time high in 2020 while we experienced the biggest rise in America's murder rate. They are completely out of touch with reality in our communities across Texas and our nation.
You and I know that defunding the police is an irresponsible policy and leads to fatal consequences. Texans don't support the anti-police movement because we back our law enforcement 100 percent, and we value safe communities for all.
We took a stand for our brave law enforcement officers by passing legislation that stops efforts to defund local police departments. We also passed landmark bail reform legislation, which will help keep dangerous criminals off the streets and behind bars.
From personally ensuring we had enough funding to provide bulletproof vests to all patrol officers, to funding bulletproof windshields for every DPS patrol car, I remain committed to doing everything possible to keep our officers safe.
The courage our police officers display daily to keep us safe is something we should never take for granted.
Defunding the police is just one example of the crazy leftist ideas that Texas Democrats want to enact. I'm fighting them at every turn. Can I count on your support to help me keep fighting? Your contribution of $5-10-25 or more will send a message to Democrats that Texans do not support their anti-police movement.
May God bless you and your family, and may He continue to bless the greatest state of all—Texas.
Sincerely,
Dan Patrick
Lieutenant Governor of Texas
