John -- I'm on the ground in Del Río to support the Haitian Bridge Alliances’ extraordinary efforts to halt the mass expulsions of Haitians and bear witness to this administration’s racist and intentional mistreatment of Black migrants. Here’s what you are not seeing on the news:
An extremely small number of people who are deemed unable to fly are being released to a welcome center where the Haitian Bridge Alliance has orchestrated a humanitarian response based on the values that the Biden administration is blatantly ignoring -- compassion and dignity.
I've seen families with small children, newborns, mothers, and teenagers with hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Just like any other person who would move heaven and earth to get their loved ones out of danger, these families are resilient and powerful -- despite being betrayed by the Biden administration.
This is anti-Blackness in action. In just one week, over ten thousand people are being expelled to a country that has no means to receive them.
It’s clear that if we don’t raise our voices as loud as possible right now, the Biden administration will continue making a mockery of basic human decency.
We need to use our collective power to demand that Biden stop expulsion flights and protect the thousands of Haitian migrants at the border:
I am livid, exhausted, and shaking with fury at what I am witnessing: bus after bus after bus with cages on the windows taking families to ICE jails all across the country, many of which are notorious for their abysmal conditions, or airfields to be expelled.
The administration that we hoped would change things after four years of terror is failing us again and again: it has reinstated Trump-era policies like Remain in Mexico and Title 42 and is only accelerating its expulsion as the world watches in revulsion.
It’s no secret that this is based on centuries of a system profiting from the legacy of white supremacy and anti-Blackness.
You can do something now to show that you are with Haitian people right now: join us in supporting the Haitian Bridge Alliance’s heroic efforts and demand Biden stop all expedited removal flights to Haiti immediately.
People seeking safety deserve so much more from us. We’ve promised people that the U.S. is the land of hope. Let’s live up to that promise and treat people with the dignity and compassion they deserve.
Thank you for all that you do,
