Team,
We are all sick of robocalls. At best, they’re annoying. At worst, they’re scamming people out of their hard-earned money.
This is the top issue I hear about from North Carolinians — robocalls were listed as the number one consumer complaint in our state last year.
That’s why my team and I are working hard to hold these bad actors accountable and protect North Carolina consumers.
And so far, we’ve made progress, but I know we have a long way to go. Earlier this year, I worked alongside 38 attorneys general and the Federal Trade Commission to shut down a massive robocall operation that collected over $100 million in deceptive solicitations.
We’ve also taken stock of how well telecom companies are implementing the Anti-Robocall Principles I negotiated in 2019. This week, I was proud to share that companies that agreed to those principles have identified more than 52 billion spam or spoofed phone numbers and blocked more than 32.5 billion spam, spoofed, or illegal calls.
I know that there’s still plenty more work to do to protect our state’s consumers and hold scammers accountable, but I’m committed to doing everything I can to stem the tide of robocalls in our state. If you agree we need more accountability, will you add your name now to support the work we’re doing? [[link removed]]
